6. Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe
Sport: Hockey

From the mid-1940s until the mid-1990s, at least one member of the Howe family was in the NHL. Incredibly, for several seasons during the 1970s, all three played together in the World Hockey Association! Gordie is second to Wayne Gretzky in the NHL for career scoring and legendary status. He won six MVP awards and in his 25 seasons was a first-team all-star 12 times and a second-team selection nine times. Then, at age 45, he was the MVP of the fledging WHA, scoring 100 points for the Houston Aeros, where he teamed with his sons, Mark and Marty. The three also played together for one NHL season -- 1979-80 for the Hartford Whalers -- when Dad was 52!
Mark was a fine scorer during his WHA days, but became a mobile, offensive-minded defenseman when he moved to the NHL. Though his career was marred late by several injuries, he was true to the Howe tradition of longevity, toughness and excellence. Marty’s career was short, but the rumors that Gordie elbows him out of the den on family visits are false.
